 泰戈爾在很多詩篇中再三強調愛與美都是要給予的，而不是要佔有的，也不是為了享樂的。我們不能因為我們所要奉獻的愛帶有悲傷而把心扉關閉。

當我們把｢心｣給予別人的時候，｢心｣不是空的，它帶著｢淚水與詩歌｣。因為心靈中包含榮辱得失、酸甜苦辣、歡笑與悲傷，深刻而豐富的愛才能｢堅強而持久｣。

 把｢心｣奉獻出去不是為了快樂，因為｢歡樂像露珠一樣脆弱，它在笑聲中就會殞落。｣追求歡樂的愛是自私的、虛偽的。在愛的歡愉中所得到的快樂若缺乏｢悲傷｣的內涵，很快就會破滅。

 愛與美的奉獻就像荷花毫無保留的｢在陽光下開放｣，不要把純真的熱情留到｢無盡的冬霧裡。｣
