我在路上行走，不知道為什麼。

原文如下：
I was walking by the road， I do not know why， when the noonday was past and bamboo branches rustled in the wind.
我在路上行走，不知道為什麼，午時已過，竹枝在風中簌簌作響。
The prone shadows with their outstretched arms
clung to the feet of the hurrying light.
横斜的影子伸臂拖住流光的雙足。
The koels were weary of their songs.
布榖鳥唱倦了。
I was walking by the road， I do not know why.
我在路上行走，不知道為什麼。
The hut by the side of the water is shaded by
an overhanging tree.
低垂的樹蔭盖住水邊的茅屋。
Some one was busy with her work， and her bangles made music in the
corner.
有人在忙着工作，她的手鐲在角落發出音樂。
I stood before this hut， I know not why.
我在屋前站着，不知道為什麼。
The narrow winding road crosses many a mustard
field， and many a mango
forest.
曲徑穿過一片芥菜田和重重芒果樹林。
It passes by the temple of the village and the
market at the river landing place.
它經過村廟和渡頭的市集。
I stopped by this but， I do not know why.
我停在屋前，不知道為什麼。
Years ago it was a day of breezy March when
the murmur of the spring was languorous， and mango blossoms were dropping on the dust.
幾年前，有一天微風吹拂的三月埋怨春天的無聊，芒果花落在地上。
The rippling water leapt and licked the brass
vessel that stood on the landing step.
跳躍的浪花輕觸渡頭階沿上的铜瓶。
I think of that day of breezy March， I do not know why.
我想起三月風吹的那一天，我不知道為什麼。
Shadows are deepening and cattle returning to
their folds.
陰影更深，牛群歸欄。
The light is grey upon the lonely meadows， and the village are waiting for the
ferry at the bank.
寂寞的牧場上日色漸暗，村人在河邊待渡。
I slowly return upon my steps， I do not know why.
我缓步回去，不知道為什麼。
詩人在路上行走，那條路有什麼特別？他看到了什麼特殊的景象？路上發生了什麼事？
在Tagore
詩中出現的人物和景象大多是很普通的日常事物，但經過他的創作，就變得美妙而珍貴。
在路上，他看到一片竹林─鄉村路旁很普通的植栽，聽到竹子在微風中互相磨擦的美妙聲音─布榖鳥歌唱的伴奏，而且看到｢横斜的影子伸臂拖住流光的雙足。｣！
小屋裡有人在工作，她的手鐲互相碰撞，發出｢音樂｣。這也能觸發詩人的靈感！
小路、市集、渡頭、田野、果園、小屋…都是他的好題材。
這些景色很平常，而且年年一樣。詩人不只看不厭倦，還懷念幾年前｢芒果花落在地上｣的樣子。
黃昏的田野、待渡的村民更使他詩興泉湧！
他說他｢不知道為什麼。｣我想你可以告訴他。
